Helen L. Lewis, owner of “Baked by Helen”, has always loved spending time in the kitchen. Although an outstanding cook, she has found that her true love is baking – particularly cakes, pies and cobblers.
After years of baking for her family and friends, Helen was surprised to discover that she quickly was becoming known in the community for her tasty desserts.
Fueled by dozens of offers from neighbors, church members and her beloved Delta Sigma Theta Sorors to pay her to make a cake or cobbler, she officially founded “Baked by Helen.” Like many businesses, she started her operation on a small scale, relying on the community’s strong word-of-mouth network for her referrals. As the word continued to spread about her tasty cakes, pies and cobblers, so did her business. In fact, a great deal of her sales have come “on the spot” from people that taste her sweets at wedding receptions, birthday parties and family reunions.
